Vol. 385 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cashel (Tipperary) Cable Television.

53.

asked the Minister for Communications if his attention has been drawn to the grave dissatisfaction among the residents of Cashel, County Tipperary, at the undue delay in making cable television available to them, despite the fact that a licence was granted to a television cabling company in 1986; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware that the range of television services relayed on the cable system serving Cashel is not comparable in terms of broadcasting services offered on other cable systems. However, I understand that the licensed cable operator has had some difficulties in using the cable head-end (reception point) site originally chosen for the reception of UK terrestrial services and that there is no suitable alternative site conveniently available. I understand however that the possibility of supplying the UK television services to Cashel by other means is being explored by the operator and I hope that the full range of services will be available on the system in the near future.
