Vol. 385 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Examination Superintendent Allowance.

13.

asked the Minister for Education (a) the reason her Department refused to pay day allowance for Friday to the eligible superintendents who supervised the leaving certificate, intermediate certificate and matriculation examinations in 1988 and (b) the reason she did not honour the assurance given to the teachers union that this allowance would be paid.

In the course of discussions concerning the 1988 examinations the teacher representatives were informed that subsistence allowances would be paid to persons appointed to act as superintendents at the leaving and intermediate certificate examinations strictly in accordance with the terms of the Department of Finance regulations in this regard, and this was done.

If the Deputy is aware of any particular case where a claimant feels he or she was not allowed expenses to which they were entitled I will arrange to have the matter investigated if he submits the details to me.

My Department have no function in relation to payment to matriculation examiners.
