Vol. 385 No. 4

Written Answers. - Vocational Education Committees Legislation.

41.

asked the Minister for Education when she intends to publish legislation to abolish some town Vocational Education Committees; whether a Government decision has been made in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

It is my intention to bring forward legislation in the coming year to rationalise VEC structures. This will allow VECs, including town of VECs, to be amalgamated. As I have already stated publicly, this will have the effect of reducing the number of VECs from 38 at present to about 20 to 22. My intention to rationalise VEC structures is supported by a Government decision in this regard. I propose to press ahead with the necessary measures to give effect to that Government decision.
