Vol. 385 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Education Children's Transport.

46.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the difficulties being experienced by children in special education in securing access to transport to and from school.

The transport system catering for children attending special schools is designed to alleviate hardship in getting them to their respective schools. In view of the scattered locations of these children over very wide areas the cost involved in transporting them is considerable. However, it has been found possible to provide a reasonable level of service for the majority of them.

In cases where children are outside the range of transport and for whom no service is available my Department operates a scheme under which a grant towards private transport arrangements is available.
