Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

145.

asked the Minister for Finance if arrangements will be made as a matter of urgency for a tax rebate to be paid to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 24 having regard to the urgent financial need of the person concerned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that on the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes there is no refund of tax due in this case. The taxpayer who is assessed jointly with his wife has been granted all the allowances and reliefs to which he is entitled by reference to his most recently completed return of income — that for the year 1986-87 dated 12 February 1987. The inspector of taxes will now issue to him for completion, returns of income for 1987-88 and for the current year, so that his tax affairs may be brought up to date.
