Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Debt.

147.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost of (a) interest payments and (b) capital repayments of servicing the national debt in 1988.

The budget Estimate for interest payments on the national debt in 1988 is £1,975 million. The indications at present are that the outturn for the year as a whole will be within the Estimate.

The cost of capital repayments, defined as scheduled repayments of foreign debt and national loans, for 1988 is estimated at £277 million of foreign debt and £1,536 million of national loans.
