Mr. Roche

asked the Minister for the Environment the rate of service charge for water, sewerage, refuse and other services levied by each local authority in their Estimates for the 1989 financial year; the amount of money outstanding in each authority for service charges at the commencement of the 1988 financial year; the total amount of service charges billed by each local authority for 1988; the amount of charges outstanding as at 1 December, 1988; and the amount of the overdraft due by each local authority as at (a) 30 September, 1988 (b) 30 September 1987 and (c) 30 September 1986.

Details of the approved level of overdraft for each local authority at 30 September, 1986, 1987 and 1988 are set out in the tabular statement which I propose to have circulated in the Official Report. Details of the actual debits are not available in my Department. In so far as it is available the information requested by the Deputy regarding the rate of service charge to be levied by each local authority for 1989 in respect of domestic water, refuse and sewerage services as applicable is set out in the tabular statement also. It should be noted that the information supplied in respect of service charges is subject to verification against the Estimates documentation to be submitted in due course.

Details of the amount of money outstanding in each local authority for service charges at the commencement of the 1988 financial year and of the total amount of domestic service charges billed for 1988 are set out in my reply to Question No. 162 of 6 December, 1988. Information is not available in my Department in respect of the amount of charges outstanding as at 1 December, 1988.
