Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Appointments.

212.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the concern expressed by the Employment Equality Agency regarding the low upper age limit for local authority appointments; in view of the fact that this may discriminate against older married women who may wish to return to the workforce, if he will review the practice in so far as it applies to the local government area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Employment Equality Agency has written to me directly regarding the upper age limit for local authority appointments. My Department has consulted the Department of Finance about the issues raised in view of their implications for recruitment grades throughout the public service.
