Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Supply of Arms and Explosives.

20.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs in view of the huge supplies of arms and explosives discovered in this country in recent times emanating from the USSR and other east European countries, the efforts he is making with the diplomatic services of these countries to ensure that these supplies are stopped at their source.

The ability of paramilitaries to obtain arms manufactured in various countries is obviously a cause of deep concern. The Government are committed to encouraging international co-operation against terrorism and to taking all appropriate measures through diplomatic and other channels to that end. Explanation of the Government's policy in relation to Northern Ireland and our efforts to combat violence arising from the situation there are also constant features of our diplomatic contacts with other countries.
