Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Birmingham Six and Guilford Four Cases.

32.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he made any representations to the Soviet Foreign Minister regarding Mr. Gorbachev's reported interest in the plight of the Birmingham Six and the Guilford Four and also the administration of justice in Northern Ireland.

I have not made any representations to the Soviet Foreign Minister in these matters, although I am, of course, aware of interest in the Soviet Union in the issues mentioned. For our part, our concerns about the Birmingham Six and Guildford Four cases, and about the administration of justice in Northern Ireland, are expressed through the channels established by the Anglo-Irish Agreement, as well as in other bilateral ministeral and official contacts with the British authorities.
