Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sale of Aircraft Spare Parts.

37.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has had representations from the US Government protesting about the sale by Aer Lingus of planes to Iran.

I am aware that a legal investigation is currently under way in the US into the alleged sale of aircraft spare parts by a subsidiary of Aer Lingus to Iran in contravention of US controls on reexport. Our Ambassador in Washington has been in contact with the State Department to advise the US Government authorities of our interest in a matter concerning the national airline. I am not, however, aware of any allegations of sale of aircraft by Aer Lingus to Iran. I have had no representations in the matter from the US Government.
