Vol. 385 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Kildare New Garda Station.

75.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to recent indications to the effect that it is not proposed to proceed with the provision of a Garda sub-station at Leixlip, County Kildare; if he is conscious of the urgent need for the provision of this station and previous commitments to provide same; if he will urgently reappraise the situation with a view to meeting the requirements of the town of Leixlip, having a population of 15,000, by way of urgent provision of this facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no knowledge of the "recent indications" referred to. I do not in any event consider that I can reasonably be expected to comment on reports which are based entirely on speculation.

As regards the second part of the question, I am aware of the need for a Garda station in Leixlip and the position in this regard has not changed since it was stated to the Deputy on 19 October 1988 in reply to his parliamentary question on that date.
