Vol. 385 No. 7

Written Answers. - Receiving of Stolen Property Legislation.

20.

asked the Minister for Justice if the Law Reform Commission report on receiving stolen property is the subject of proposed legislation; his views on the broadening of the definition of the term "receiving" to include handling of stolen goods; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following consideration by the Government of the Law Reform Commission's report on the matter, legislation to amend the Larceny Act, 1916, in relation to the offence of receiving stolen property is at an advanced stage of preparation and I hope to be able to circulate a Bill before the next session. As to the contents of the Bill, it would not be appropriate for me to say more at this stage than that the Bill will address the main problems identified by the Law Reform Commission in its report on the matter.
