asked the Minister for Justice the approximate delays in having appeals heard by the Supreme Court; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed that the average time lag between the listing of a case and its hearing in the Supreme Court is approximately 12 months. The delay is attributable to the growth in the number of appeals. I understand that the Chief Justice may grant a priority hearing where it is shown that the case is one of special urgency.
