Vol. 385 No. 7

Written Answers. - Heroin Traffickers.

72.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the fact that heroin traffickers are carrying quantities of the drug internally to avoid arrest; that this represents a major difficulty for the Garda; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they are aware of the practice referred to in the question and that the measures taken to combat drug trafficking take account of this practice. I am also informed that there have been a number of detections by the Garda in recent months in cases where this practice has been followed.
