Vol. 385 No. 8

Written Answers - East Wall (Dublin) Airport Proposal.

12.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the present position regarding the proposal to build a small commercial airport in the East Wall area of Dublin 3; if his Department have undertaken any study of the safety implications of such a proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated in this House on 20 April 1988 in response to a similar question from Deputy De Rossa, I am aware that the question of providing a short take off and landing airport in the Dublin Port area has been under consideration by private interests but no formal proposal has been put to me in the matter. I am also aware of recent newspaper reports that land has been acquired in the East Wall area for the purpose of building a small airport.

If and when a proposal is submitted to me for the construction of an airport in the East Wall area, the suitability and safety aspects of the proposed site for licensing as an airport will be considered by my Department.
