Vol. 385 No. 8

Written Answers - South West Cork Horticultural Development.

31.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the aid his Department intends to give to Kilcrohane Vegetables Co-op, County Cork to promote horticultural development in the Muintevara Peninsula in south west Cork.

No formal application from Kilcrohane Vegetables Co-operative, County Cork for grant aid is under consideration in my Department at present.

Grants are available under the farm improvement programme for on-farm production and IDA grants for processing and marketing projects.

Aid is also available from my Department for the formation of formally recognised EC producer groups. In the latter connection the Co-operative approached the Department about the setting up of a producer group and vegetable processing enterprise in Kilcrohane in 1987 and aid was sought for the employment of a professional marketing adviser for the producer group. The Co-operative was informed that officers of the Department would be available to advise on the procedures for setting up a producer group but that there were no funds available for the employment of an adviser.
