45.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of cheques made payable to the Revenue Commissioners under the recent tax amnesty which had to be referred to drawer.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 40, 41 and 45 together.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that a total of 1,144 cheques to a value of £7,306,698.45 received under the tax amnesty scheme were returned unpaid by the banks. As of 2 December last replacement bank drafts or cheques to a value of £2,383,982.06 have been received in 302 cases. The remaining 842 cases, to a value of £4,922,716.39, are being actively pursued and it is anticipated that most of the money will be received.
