Vol. 385 No. 8

Written Answers - Sport Movement Grant Payment.

63.

asked the Minister for Education the amount of grant allocated to the Mini-Sport Movement in Ireland recently.

A total of 26,430 was allocated to the Irish Mini-Sport Movement by my Department in 1988.

The breakdown of the grant is as follows: (i) Annual Sports Grant (towards the cost of coaching, administration, equipment and special projects), £5,000; (ii) Grant towards the cost of the employment of an administrator, £14,000; (iii) Grant towards the cost of the attendance of a member at executive meetings of the international federation, £780; (iv) Grant towards the cost of holding the Mini-Sport Festival, £4,000; (v) Grant towards the cost of sending a team to the European Mini-Basketball Festival in England from 31 July to 8 August 1988, £250; (vi) Grant towards the cost of hosting the visit of two representatives of the French Mini-Sport Movement, £400.

In addition, my Department allocated a grant of £25,000 for the provision of office accommodation at the recently established House of Sport in Walkinstown, Dublin 12. Eight national governing bodies of sport, including the Irish Mini-Sport Movement, have been accommodated there. The office is intended to be used as a base for the administrator to provide a professional and efficient approach to the development of mini-sports in Ireland.
