Dáil Éireann debate -
Friday, 16 Dec 1988

Vol. 385 No. 9

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 6 and 7. It is also proposed that all stages of No. 6 shall be taken without debate. It is further proposed that the proceedings on No. 7 shall be brought to a conclusion at 5 p.m. and the following arrangements shall apply: (1) the speech of the Taoiseach shall not exceed 40 minutes; (2) the speech of the main spokesperson nominated by each of the groups, as defined in Standing Order 89, in Opposition shall not exceed 30 minutes; (3) the speech of each other Member called on shall not exceed 15 minutes; and (4) the final speaker, who shall be a member of the Government shall be called on not later than 4.45 p.m. It is further proposed that the Dáil, at its rising for the Christmas recess, shall adjourn until 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 25 January 1989.

Is it agreed to take all stages of No. 6 without debate? Agreed. Are the proposals for dealing with No. 7 agreed?

On behalf of The Workers' Party I want to object to the proposals in regard to Item No. 7, the debate on the adjournment of the Dáil, for reasons which have been specified by Deputy De Rossa on a number of occasions in this House. I merely wish to add that when The Workers' Party had two Deputies in this House I was afforded the same facilities as the spokespersons for other parties but now that we have four Deputies in the House——

I note the Deputy's objection and, therefore, I am putting the question: "That the proposals for No. 7 be agreed."

Question put and declared carried.

Are the proposals for the Adjournment of the House agreed? Agreed.
