Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Archaeological Park.

165.

asked the Minister for Finance the plans his Department has to provide for advancement of the national archaeological park on the site of the Battle of the Boyne; whether this would be a great tourist attraction in the Boyne Valley area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has no plans to establish a national archaeological park related to the Battle of the Boyne. The primary tourist attraction in the Boyne Valley area is the pre-history remains and in particular the outstanding monuments at Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth. The Government has already approved in principle of the creation of an archaeological park in this area. A planning study of the area has been commissioned.
