Vol. 386 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway School Transport.

255.

asked the Minister for Education if she will restore free school transport to persons (details supplied) in County Galway.

The number of eligible children offering for transport from September 1988 was insufficient to warrant the maintenance of the special service to Newtown national school from the Pillagh and Thounabiggis areas.

Accordingly, under the terms of the primary school transport scheme it was not open to my Department to continue this service after summer 1988.

My Department has offered a remote area grant towards the cost of private transport arrangements for the two Lydon children and a medical grant has been offered to assist the Connor children. Jason Bohan is ineligible for free transport.
