Vol. 386 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bonet River Drainage.

66.

asked the Minister for Finance, in view of the new problems created by silting and flooding in the Bonet River downstream from Dromahair, County Leitrim, particularly at Killery, if he will arrange to have works carried out on this part of the river between Dromahair and Lough Gill; if so, when it is intended to start; and the methods of drainage which are to be used.

All the available resources of the Bonet scheme are being concentrated on the completion of the scheduled scheme works. Neither the Killery River nor the section of the Bonet between Dromahair and Lough Gill is adversely affected by these works. The areas in question are outside the scope of the drainage scheme and, while an extension to the scheme to include the Killery River has been under consideration for some time, I cannot say at this stage when any additional works might be undertaken. There are no plans to undertake works on the Bonet River between Dromahair and Lough Gill.
