Vol. 386 No. 5

Written Answers. - Work Permit.

64.

asked the Minister for Labour, in view of the fact that political asylum has been granted to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 15 for the past 15 months and that this person is now living on supplementary welfare, if he will give a work permit to this person in order that he can take up employment in the field in which he is qualified or in another suitable area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Applications for work permits are considered in accordance with the Aliens Act, 1935, the Aliens Orders, 1946 and 1975 and the European Community (Aliens) Regulations, 1972-1985.

Section 4 of the Aliens (Amendment) Order, 1975 requires an employer to obtain a work permit in respect of any non European Community (E.C.) national whom he intends to employ. If an employer seeks a work permit on behalf of the individual in question I will have it considered. The individual's circumstances would be taken into account.
