asked the Minister for Finance, in relation to the Government's policy decision to reduce public service staff numbers by 3,000 in 1989, the areas of employment in which it is anticipated these reductions will occur; and the estimated numbers in each area.

The estimated changes in employment levels in different areas of the public service in 1989 resulting from the application of present Government policy are as follows:
