Vol. 386 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Roads Authority Funds.

99.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of funds which have been provided for the National Roads Authority for 1989.

I intend to allocate to local authorities over £130 million in grants for 1989 for the improvement and maintenance of national roads. Pending the setting up of the National Roads Authority on a statutory basis, the Authority will supervise the programme for national roads.

A provision of £40,000 has been made in the Department's Estimate to cover the administrative and general expenses of the National Roads Authority in 1989. This provision does not cover the staffing costs incurred by the Department in providing services for the authority.
