asked the Minister for Defence in relation to the period of training of soldiers enlisted to the Permanent Defence Force: (a) the average period spent as a recruit and the amount of wages and allowances paid during such a period (b) the average period spent as a two-star private and the amount of wages and allowances paid during such periods and (c) the estimated total cost in wages, allowances, uniforms, accommodation, meals, cost to training and other costs attributable to the training of an average private soldier up to the rank of three-star private.
