Vol. 387 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Financial Services Centre.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the Government's plans for the financial Services Centre, Custom House Docks, Dublin 1 following on the report by British consultants (details supplied) commissioned by his Department; and if the report's recommendations to him will result in revised plans for the centre.

The report referred to has been rejected. It was not commissioned by my Department. It was considered by the International Financial Services Centre Committee who advise the Government on the development of the centre. The committee took no action on the report because private banking facilities, subject to the existing practice on confidentiality, are provided for in the legislation governing the centre. There is no question of altering the regime established by the legislation to permit or encourage undesirable secret banking or any other similar activities. The highest standards of financial probity will be rigidly enforced in the centre.
