Vol. 387 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

77.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of persons currently employed as cleaners by each Government Department; if it is intended to recruit any additional staff in this area of work; if it is intended to give any preference to particular categories of people, for example, recently widowed men and women; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The attached table sets our the number of cleaners employed in each Department and office of the Civil Service on 1 January 1989.

In line with Government policy on reducing the size of the Exchequer pay bill, there are no proposals on hands for the recruitment of any additional cleaners. Accordingly, the question of priorities for particular categories does not arise at present.
