Vol. 387 No. 2

Written Answers. - Motor Fuel Excise Duties.

67.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in light of the fact that rates of excise duties for motor fuels are specified in pence per litre and the prices for motor fuels are similarly shown on virtually all retail pumps, he will ensure that references to changes in excise duty in future Budget Statements and other relevant statements are quoted in pence per litre.

I would refer the Deputy to page 25 of the Principal Features of the 1989 Budget in which the excise duty (incl. VAT) increase announced in that budget in respect of petrol is expressed in pence per gallon and per litre. I intend to indicate any future excise duty changes in motor fuels in terms of litres as well as gallons.
