Vol. 387 No. 5

Written Answers. - Nuclear Cargo.

95.

asked the Minister for Energy if a Soviet ship (details supplied) was inspected when it visited Dublin Port in November/December 1988; if it contained nuclear cargo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The transport of dangerous goods, including radioactive substances, by sea is regulated by the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG). The implementation of the IMDG in any port is the responsibility of the harbour master. The harbour master in Dublin port has confirmed that on the occasions since last October when the ship referred to visited Dublin it has not carried any radioactive substances.
