Vol. 387 No. 5

Written Answers. - Christmas Parole for Prisoners.

17.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of applications his Department received for Christmas parole from prisoners serving life sentences in Portlaoise prison, County Laois; the number to whom he granted parole; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Applications for temporary release at Christmas were received from four offenders serving life sentences at Portlaoise. None of these offenders was considered suitable for temporary release and, accordingly, their applications were refused. In my reply to Question No. 79 of 25 January 1989 I outlined policy relating to the review of the cases of offenders serving life sentences.
