Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - Limerick Local Authority Housing.

133.

asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the practice whereby the keys of local authority houses are handed to would-be tenants in parts of Ward 3 of Limerick city by a councillor without reference to the relevant corporation officials; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that this practice appears to be in breach of the provisions of the Housing Acts; that it has been suggested that this practice is indulged in under the influence of an illegal organisation and is a cause of concern to the Garda Síochána; and if his Department will intervene with Limerick Corporation to ensure that there is no repetition of this practice in the future.

Ordinarily the letting of individual dwellings is entirely a matter for the housing authority concerned and is not one in which I have any function. However, in the circumstances represented by the Deputy I am, exceptionally, having inquiries made in the matter with Limerick Corporation. I will be in touch with the Deputy on the outcome of the inquiries.
