Vol. 387 No. 7

Written Answers. - British Visitors Statistics.

43.

asked the Taoiseach if he will make a statement on the Central Statistics Office figures, due for release in April, that only one in fifty British visitors to Ireland last year were pure tourists.

Contrary to recent misleading newspaper reports, no such figures are due for release by the Central Statistics Office.

In April next the annual Central Statistics Office release entitled "Tourism and Travel" will be published. It will provide estimates of the numbers and expenditure of visitors to Ireland and of Irish visitors abroad on the same basis as in previous years. The 1987 release is reproduced in the June 1988 issue of the Statistical Bulletin (Page 322 et seq.).
