Vol. 387 No. 8

Written Answers. - Tuam (Galway) Water Scheme.

48.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the application by Galway County Council for funds to provide a new scheme for Tuam, County Galway; if his attention has been drawn to the poor quality of the water; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Approval to a preliminary report and to the preparation of contract documents for stage I of the Tuam regional water supply scheme issued to Galway County Council in June 1986. The county council recently submitted proposed revisions to the scheme and these are being considered in my Department. As the scheme is at preliminary report stage only, the question of providing funds does not arise.

The monitoring of drinking water quality and the action to be taken when the statutory quality standards are not complied with are matters for Galway County Council.
