Vol. 387 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Crèche Facilities in Government Departments.

2.

asked the Minister for Finance the provision which has been made for the children of public servants in Government Departments; the number of crèche facilities, if any, which are available; and the Government's intentions in this regard.

A number of schemes such as career breaks, job-sharing, flexible working hours and special leave for domestic reasons are in operation in the Civil Service, which may be availed of by the majority of civil servants for the purposes of child care.

Crèche facilities are not available in Government Departments. The matter is, however, under discussion by a joint official and staff side subcommittee of General Council. Having regard to these discussions, which are on-going, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment.
