Vol. 387 No. 9

Written Answers. - Low-vision Aid Clinic.

83.

asked the Minister for Health the reason there is no direct Government funding for the Low-vision Aid Clinic; and if he has satisfied himself regarding the manner in which the clinic is dependent on voluntary fund raising.

This clinic has been moved recently from St. Mary's Home and School for the Blind, Merrion, Dublin, to the headquarters of the National Council for the Blind in Drumcondra, Dublin. The council are to take over management of the clinic. The National Rehabilitation Board, which are a statutory board under the aegis of my Department, provide the services of an ophthalmologist and a psychologist to the clinic. In addition the NRB pay for aids prescribed for children who attend the clinic, who comprise over 50 per cent of its clientele.
