Vol. 387 No. 9

Written Answers. - EC Funds for Visually Impaired Students.

86.

asked the Minister for Education if the availability of EC funds for visually-impaired students at Irish universities including facilities for reader services, texts on tape or on Braille and scholarships, has been investigated; and if so, the result of such investigation.

As regards the European Social Fund, courses operated in universities have generally not been eligible for funding nor are any EC funds available for visually impaired students. In the case of vocational training courses which are eligible for assistance under the ESF, assistance may be allowed in respect of the cost of adjusting facilities to accommodate handicapped trainees including the visually impaired.
