Vol. 387 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Limerick Garda Station Manpower.

54.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will appoint five extra gardaí to Mayorstone Garda Station, County Limerick as requested by residents who are the subject of constant attacks by gangs of youths from outside the area.

The Garda authorities inform me that the local divisional officer is aware of a recent spate of crime affecting an area of the Mayorstone Garda sub-district and that measures are being taken to deal with it. The Mayorstone sub-district receives attention from patrols operated from Mayorstone, Henry Street and Mary Street stations and the Divisional Officer is currently reviewing the deployment of these patrols in order to provide an improved police service to the area which is of particular concern at present. The Garda authorities welcome the proposal by residents of the area in question to form a neighbourhood watch scheme and assure them of full Garda support for their efforts.

An additional garda was assigned to Mayorstone station last October. The Garda authorities inform me that there are no proposals to allocate further manpower to the station at present but that the matter will be kept under review.
