Vol. 387 No. 10

Written Answers. - Milk Payment.

67.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will direct the dairy co-operatives to make an immediate payment for milk supplied in the current milk marketing year to individual suppliers; and if the co-operatives will deduct any super-levy liability during the peak months of June, July and August.

The relevant Community regulations provide that milk purchasers (co-operatives or dairies) must recover any super levy due through the price paid to the producers for the period concerned. It is not, therefore, possible to postpone until the following levy year the collection of levies due for the previous year and I have no power to direct the dairy co-operatives as requested.
