Vol. 388 No. 3

Written Answers. - Short Take-off and Landing Airports.

34.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport whether his Department have in their possession any studies on the concept of short take-off and landing airports, either as they might apply to Ireland or as they have operated in other countries; and if he will make them available in the Oireachtas Library.

My Department are aware of the development of the concept of short take-off and landing airports and have kept in touch with the performance of such facilities elsewhere. The Department are not, however, in possession of any formal studies on the subject. I am aware that a major feasibility study to determine the economic, technical and aeronautical viability of establishing a short take-off and landing airport in the Dublin Port area is being undertaken at present by private interests.
