Vol. 388 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) Road Works.

113.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the continuing delay in giving approval to Drogheda Corporation for road work at Scarlet Street, Drogheda, County Louth; when approval will be given; and the amount of grant payable.

In the absence, prior to 1989, of a specific road grant allocation for the work, the question of approving Drogheda Corporation's proposals for the improvement of Scarlet Street did not arise. Contract documents for the scheme have been received in my Department and are currently the subject of discussions, at engineering level, between the local authority and the Department with a view to seeking tenders for the work. Construction work on the scheme will commence as soon as the formalities of the tender procedure have been completed. On 9 March a road grant of £100,000 was notified to the local authority to meet costs arising in 1989.
