Vol. 388 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tralee, Kerry, Hospital Services.

42.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the serious difficulties arising in Tralee General Hospital, County Kerry following the recent closure of a surgical and a medical ward for the weekend; and the action he proposes to take to ensure that urgent cases will be catered for.

I am aware that the Southern Health Board has proposed changes in the organisation of services at Tralee General Hospital. I understand that this involves converting two seven day wards into five day wards. These changes will take effect from 20 March next. Urgent cases based on clinical judgment will continue to receive priority. The Southern Health board have given their assurance that an adequate level of service will be provided and that the admission of urgent cases will be a matter of clinical judgment.
