Vol. 388 No. 4

Written Answers. - Civil Service Recruitment.

57.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will relax the embargo on Civil Service recruitment or other regulations if it is not possible to find sufficient members of civil servants in each grade for the successful transfer of the Department of Social Welfare to Sligo with the full number of 350 civil servants originally planned.

58.

asked the Minister for Finance if for any reason it is not found possible to get a sufficient number of civil servants for each grade of the section of the Department of Social Welfare being transferred to Sligo he will make the necessary recruitment from competent people in the area.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 57 and 58 together.

The original number of civil servants envisaged for Sligo was 300 and it remains the intention that the number to transfer will be of this order. Competitions have already been set in train to fill a number of vacancies by promotion and, if necessary, open recruitment will also be considered.
