Vol. 388 No. 4

Written Answers. - Maynooth (Kildare) Post-Primary School.

85.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that due to various financial and other constraints Maynooth post-primary school, County Kildare is forced to terminate all classes at 1.30 p.m. on Fridays and at 2.35 p.m. on Mondays for fifth years and at 3 p.m. on Wednesdays for leaving certificate classes; if her attention has further been drawn to the irreparable damage such curtailments are likely to inflict on the students; the action, if any, she proposes to take to rectify the matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The allocations of teaching staff in the second level VEC sector are made by my Department on a committee wide basis and not in respect of individual schools.

Since 14 July 1988 when my Department issued the initial allocation of teaching staff to County Kildare VEC in respect of the current school session (1988/89) the committee's teacher allocation has been revised on a number of occasions and the allocation has been increased by a total of 11.0 wholetime teacher equivalents.

The deployment of its teaching resources and the organisation of its educational programme are matters to be determined by the committee itself within the parameters of the authorised allocation.
