Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Finglas, Dublin, Employment Exchange Site.

164.

asked the Minister for Finance when the site will be acquired for the erection of a new employment exchange in Finglas, Dublin 11; the present stage of planning for the development; when it is likely to be built; and if he will ensure that the site is well maintained in the interim.

A site for the construction of a new employment exchange in Finglas, has already been acquired at Mellowes Road. Planning for the new exchange has been completed for some time.

I am not in a position at this stage to say when the exchange is likely to be built. This will depend on the availability of funds for the project. The provision of £3 million which is available for the employment exchange programme this year is fully committed and is not sufficient to permit work to commence on the Finglas project. It is too soon yet to say whether funds will be available next year.

I am informed by the Commissioners of Public Works that work was recently undertaken to improve the appearance of the site pending the erection of the exchange.
