Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ballyjamesduff, Cavan, Water Scheme.

211.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make available the necessary finance to enable the proposed works on the Ballyjamesduff water scheme, County Cavan to be carried out without delay, given that their submission is already with his Department for some time; and if his attention has been drawn to the quality of the water supply in Ballyjamesduff and the effects it is having on residents particularly at Virginia Road and St. Clare's College.

Contract documents for a major water supply improvement scheme to serve Ballyjamesduff have been submitted to my Department. A certificate confirming the completion of all necessary preliminary arrangements is awaited from the council before a decision can be made on the proposal.

As an interim measure, I have approved a small scheme proposal costing £23,000 which will alleviate the present difficulties by providing an additional 28,000 gallons of water per day. Cavan County Council are being asked to carry out this scheme as quickly as possible.
