Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing Survey.

216.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will use his powers under section 8 of the Housing Act, 1988 to require all local authorities to initiate a housing conditions survey to be co-ordinated by the Environmental Research Unit and to use the technical staff of the major local authorities and Office of Public Works, along with the construction and architectural departments of our universities and vocational educational committees; if he will assist financially in this operation; if he will seek the co-operation of experienced staff in the Northern Ireland Housing Executive in the content, execution and analysis of the survey; if he will have a comparative analysis undertaken between this and previous national housing condition surveys; and if he will publish the results.

Consideration is being given in my Department to all aspects of the manner in which the first estimate of housing requirements under section 8 of the Housing Act, 1988, will be undertaken, including the question of housing conditions.
