Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Unleaded Petrol.

275.

asked the Minister for Education if, following the exhortations of the Minister for the Environment in respect of the use of unleaded petrol, she has corresponded with all the semi-State bodies under her aegis directing them to use unleaded petrol in all of the petrol driven vehicles which are under the control, ownership or leasing of those semi-State companies; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The Department of Education buses currently in use in the operation of the school transport scheme are diesel-fuelled. The question of using unleaded petrol does not, therefore, arise.

The semi-State bodies under the aegis of the Department of Education namely, the Higher Education Authority, the National Council for Educational Awards and the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies do not own vehicles. Therefore, the question of corresponding with them in relation to unleaded petrol does not arise.
