Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Bus Pass.

286.

asked the Minister for Education when a bus ticket will issue to a handicapped person (details supplied) in County Cork to enable him to travel to and from the remedial school where he has been accepted; if her attention has been drawn to the hardship being caused because he has not yet received his ticket; and the reason for the delay in issuing same.

My Department some weeks ago requested Bus Éireann to arrange for appropriate service to be provided for the handicapped person referred to to enable him to travel to and from school. I understand that the person concerned was entitled to free transport on a scheduled service, but that an offer of a pass was refused by the parents — my understanding is that the person concerned wished to be carried on a special bus on which, however, accommodation could not be provided without adverse effects on another user. I understand that the person has since commenced to avail of the scheduled service and I am asking that the offer of a free pass be again made. I am arranging with my Department to have the Deputy informed of developments.
